What Is Interoperability in Digital Health?
Interoperability in digital health is the secure, timely, and meaningful exchange and use of health data across different systems. This enables clinical, administrative, and management information to flow across different systems and stakeholders while preserving its quality and context to support care delivery, management, and decision-making.
For this to be possible, interoperability develops at different levels:
  • Technical interoperability enables connectivity and data transfer between systems.
  • Syntactic interoperability defines the structure and format in which this data is organized so that it can be processed by other systems.
  • Semantic interoperability ensures that the information exchanged has the same meaning for all users.
  • Organizational interoperability involves the coordination of processes, policies, and standards between institutions to facilitate the effective exchange of information.

Requirements

This track is intended for individuals interested in health interoperability, health information systems, and the management and exchange of health data.

To progress to the Intermediate or Advanced levels, it is recommended that participants have previously completed the Foundations Level of the selected knowledge area within the track or have equivalent experience in the topic.

Recommendations

To make the most of this track, it is recommended that participants progress through the courses sequentially, starting with the foundations level and advancing to intermediate and advanced levels.
It is also advisable to review the suggested course sequences, which indicate the progression of courses within each level. In most cases, these recommendations are intended to facilitate learning, although in some situations they may be required to progress to the next level.
The track is organized into different learning areas, allowing participants to prioritize courses that best match their professional profile or interests, whether from a clinical, managerial, or technical perspective.

Other considerations

This track brings together courses offered by international organizations specialized in digital health and interoperability. As a result, each course has its own enrollment requirements, duration, and certification process.
All the courses are delivered online and asynchronously, allowing participants to progress with flexibility. At more advanced levels, some learning opportunities include international professional certifications that may require additional registration or formal evaluation.
