Course Overview
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has been identified by some experts as one of the most disruptive technologies of our times. Its potential to create texts, images, videos and sounds, practically imitating human-made creations, represents a paradigm shift, one which is undoubtedly impacting and will impact different aspects of our professional and work environments.
Although GenAI has several advantages, it also has limitations that carry associated risks, so it is important to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and perspective to use it responsibly.
The course "Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI): Fundamentals for the Latin America and the Caribbean Civil Service" is designed to provide essential knowledge for the safe and responsible use of Gen AI in the civil service.
Given the rapid adoption of this technology across various sectors, its continuous evolution, and its anticipated long-term impact, the course emphasizes how to use it critically. The primary goal is to raise awareness among public officials about both the potential benefits and the inherent limitations and risks of this technology. Ethical considerations are paramount, with a focus on preserving equality, equity, diversity, confidentiality, security, data privacy, and respect for human rights.
Throughout the course, you will explore the operational characteristics of Gen AI, assess its advantages and limitations, and identify potential risks. You'll also learn how to apply best practices for safe and responsible use. Through guided interactions (prompts), you'll gain the foundational skills needed to effectively integrate this technology into your work environment.
